RCD510 and RNS510 on the way
go from this yucky RCD310
to this
RCD510 (OEM passat/Scirocco) vs RCD310 (OEM mk6 gti)
- Original VW HU with security code
- Full sized 400x240 resolution colour touchscreen
- Can take up to 32g SDHC
- In-dash 6 CD changer
Scirocco/Passat CC owners have option to upgrade to the RNS510 which has
- 30gig HDD
- Navigation
- 800x400 resolution screen
- DVD player
The best reason for upgrading to the RCD510 is that thieves dont even look at it, cos its a OEM player, they are only after the JVC/Kenwood type aftermarket players, they have no use for OEM players
Still feel that the VW HU's have not enough functions? Need blutooth, Ipod, usb? No fret, the modshop has ex-stock of the 723V. We have supplied over 30 units to VW Cars (b4 they closed) and FA Wagen
723V spec
- 800x400 touch screen
- Bluetooth
- USB
- SD card slot
- Ipod interface
- GPS running on Windows CE- Igo 8, TomTom etc

Mk6 vs Scirocco
The Roc on the other hand, is full of goodies to tempt a mk5 owner. Its new, its exciting looking, its got 4 proper seats to fit 4 adults
what i like about the roc vs my mk5
- It looks amazing, expecially in the classic VW R blue
- RCD510 as standard
- Full MFD + mk6 steering wheel
- Sharfin antenna
- Isofix points at the back
- Adaptive suspension
- Electric seat release ( to make it esier for rear passengers to get in, theres electric adjustment on the top of the drivers seat..very cool)
Things i dun like
- No aluminium pedals
- Rear view mirror ugly
but as u can see..my cons are pretty much nitpicking on small things, overall, i would get the Roc in a heartbeat. The only thing stopping me is the fact that the Golf R is pretty much set to be launched here by Wearnes as well..so will wait and have a look. If they launched the Roc R...i would be putting down my deposit yesterday
Good news for mk5 owners, my SC in VW, has no less then 3 buyers waiting for used mk5's...and even now he is confident of getting 150-155k for a 07+ unit ...i just hope the demands stays hot till next year....
Possible Demod Sale...
I have been bitten by the Roc bug. Fingers crossed, i want to pass my gti to my wife next year and get myself a Roc, so...im putting the following items out there to see if theres any interest. As i would like my car to be Stage 1 with ori rims b4 my wife drives it.
Forge DV
APR RSC Downpipe with sport cat
18" matt grey Ultralegeras with Yoko AD07

New Osir stock arrived
- CF Mirror Covers
- CF GT Mask
Excuse the crappy pics, didnt realise the CF was so reflective..can see me in my yucky weekend clothes :p
The Osir mirror covers are full replacement for the mirror housing, and not stick on's like the cheaper replica's. Goes very well with the Inpro smoked Indicators
The GT mask is fantastic, Osir is pretty pricey overall, but i think the GT mask is the most value for money Osir product, its a huge piece of carbon, and really changes the look of the GTI

Im unbanned...and... banned again
Its not my desire to split/dilute the readership but i just feel that cooldubs.net addresses alot of issues raised by forummers that have not been taken care of. My sincere wish is to have happy forumers head for both forums to get thier daily dose of VW news and discussions, then we can all yumcha together on wed nites.
I will continue to drive cooldubs.net as it will be the future home for mk6 Scirocco and Polo owners, as well as providing a easy platform for northern and southern members to sell/trade thier parts
Gd luck and all the best to VGCM!
Update:
Great..after just one night, im banned again, wish they would make up thier minds, either ban me and delete my account, or unban me and leave me alone, the 1 post I made was also deleted. How petty and childish can you get? Its just a forum for gods sake, its not some super exclusive club that im dying to get in to. Again..no word/email/explanation about what happened, leaves a real bad taste in my mouth, this is NOT how you run a professional forum

Banned...
Pity, I have been in the forum since the 1st month they started, b4 i even owend a VW, proudly put the vgcm sticker on my car as soon as it was available.....and now..banned, cos i stood up to a rich spoilt brat, who thinks he is the king of the forum. Where is the justice? He insults ppl and acts like a rich prick on the forum, but im the one that is banned
Update:
Lol...not only have they banned me..im IP banned, any computer that i have EVER used in the last 2 years...cannot log on to the VGCM website. Means my work computers in DPC and Klang, my home computer, my wifes computer, my in-laws computer...any cyber cafe computer i used...So petty its unbelievable, its like being back in primary school.
I cant even get in to retreive the info on my own postings, info on my mods, workshops etc that I myself wrote and posted....luckily i stopped a few months back and started posting info on this blog instead...wise move
But on to another topic, I have been approached by some ppl to set up a a alternative forum, not a replacement, but just a more merchant/retailer friendly site...think more like lowyatt and zerotohundred but for VW's. Not sure yet.....dun really know if I want to really venture into hosting a forum etc....but it will be fun to experiment with names etc
so far ...ppl have proposed:
Cooldubs.com / Cooldubsmalaysia.com
Veedubmalaysia.com
Vwmalaysia.com (this one i dun like..too coporate sounding)
DSGfanatics.com (this one...not so suitable..cos not all VW are DSG)
Malaysiandubbers.com (sounds like a porn club)
Comments welcomed...suggestions welcomed...and if i decide to use your suggestions...you get a cool VW premium :p

Quick google translation.*
In an accident in Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening, four young men 18 to 20 years, died. They rode in a brand new golf.
A fifth victim is in danger, police said. The 19-year-old driver had the 170 horsepower car, which was registered to his father, only a few hours earlier, picked up in person at the Wolfsburg plant. After he had driven with friends, with over 100 miles an hour through his hometown.
The vehicle was a function of the roadway, crashed into a traffic island, flung against a tree and was ripped from a second in two parts.
"The first responders offered a grim picture," said police spokesman Thomas Figge. None of the five passengers had put on a seatbelt. All were catapulted from the vehicle and thrown into the street.
One of the men died at the accident scene, the other succumbed shortly afterwards in the nearby hospitals to their severe injuries.
Currently, the bodies are examined for traces of alcohol, drugs and tablets.

VW Golf R revealed
Golf R is out, wonder if it will be made available in Malaysia. Substantial power increase and spec compared to the standard mk6 GTI
- 265bhp and 350Nm (strengthened internals, so even a simple S1 remap would up power to 300+bhp)
- AWD
- Scirocco R bumper, and DRL's
- LED tailights
- Centre twin exhausts
This makes me more commited not to spend anymore money on my mk5, instead of 8k on suspension, 8k on BBK etc, that will all go into the D/P for a new mk6. Hope VW Malaysia brings it in, as a 2.0l car, it wont attract the kinda taxes that the R32 had, I estimate VW to price it at 240k-250k if they do bring it in.
Beautiful interior, way better then the Scirocco, check out the aluminium pedals, which the curretn mk6 GTI doesnt have, as well as the 2 tone sport seats...yummy

APR reflash to Ron95 map
Kindly be informed that APR Malaysia is officially issuing a formal request to return for an ECU remap inspection. This is in line of the recent government mandate to petrol vendors on the supply of 95RON octane fuel. The inspection, reburn or upgrade of software is provided FREE OF CHARGE.
Currently we have tested the 95RON octane fuel from a few different petroleum companies with the APR 95RON octane map. The test has conclusively confirmed that the 95RON octane program has matched the fuel octane efficiently and is near perfect to the reference point of the 98RON octane map. During our diagnostic procedures, there were no pre-detonations detected in the engines and there was only a very small power loss (almost unnoticeable) with the 95RON octane map.
Vehicles covered under this recall are:
1. Audi A4 1.8T MY2000-MY2002 B5.5
2. Audi S4 2.7T MY2000-MY2002 B5.5

FOR YOUR INFORMATION! ON petrol ...
The Difference between RON92, RON95, RON97 and RON99
Many said that RON92 petrol is the older petrol/gasoline, only suitable for older cars or for cars that uses carburetor only. There is also some that said that RON92 petrol/gasoline will make the engine dirty and also said that RON92 petrol/gasoline is less powerful compared to RON97 and RON99. Before you make any false assumptions, let us see what the real meaning of RON is.
RON stands for Research Octane Number. Octane number or octane rating refers to the petrol/gasoline ability to withstand auto ignition (knocking) inside the engine. Higher octane number refers to higher ability of the petrol/gasoline to fight auto ignition (pre-detonation). In other words, it means that RON95 is harder to ignite compared to RON92.
Different vehicles are designed to be use with different octane number of petrol/gasoline. Higher octane number petrol/gasoline is basically designed for high performance vehicles such as sport vehicle and racing vehicle. Why is that so? This is to avoid premature ignition of petrol/gasoline inside the engine because of auto ignition, which happens before the spark plug ignite the fuel. This phenomenon is known as knocking. Knocking is not wanted because it reduces the performance of vehicle.
The right usage of octane number based on design and adjustment of engine will maximize the performance and effectiveness of the vehicle. Modern vehicles are equipped with knock sensor, which enables it to adjust its combustion timing automatically according to the petrol/gasoline octane number to avoid knocking or premature ignition of petrol/gasoline.
Not all vehicles require high octane number petrol/gasoline. You can check your vehicle fuel requirement inside the guidebook of your vehicle or you can simply check the minimum Octane Rating at the back of the fuel lid cover of your vehicle. Most cars can still use RON92.
Higher RON number does not means that it is more powerful. It means that it is harder to ignite. It will also cost you more.

ABT Scirocco & MK6 GTI Preview
Mk6 GTI
To be honest, i never liked the mk6 in photos and even when i saw it in real life, the stock car was just..blah. But the ABT package does a very good job of spicing up the Mk6's rather bland looks. The quad exhaust is unique and bound to be the most populor option among the next crop of GTI owners, another point to note is that the interior of the mk 6 is a vast improvement over the mk5. The new steering wheel and instrument cluster is a definate improvement without looking too "techy" and cold like some jap models
But at rm47k for the entire ABT package, it just doesnt make sense to get it. Unless you are short on cash and want to bundle all your mods into your loan and stretch it for 9 years. I still feel the best option is to buy a stock car, and mix and max...prolonging the joy of modding over the ownership period of the car
Wheels - RM23.5k (Holy mother of god!!) O_0
Bodykit +muffler - RM 18.5k
Remap - RM6k
Est price of stock car - RM210-RM220k
Est launch date - Q4 2009
Scirocco
Im in love.....i want one.....now.... The salsa red scirocco looks smashing, low and mean, it gives off a very diffrent vibe from the GTI.
The version on show had a moonroof that covered the whole front portion of the roof, pity it would not be available on the msian spec version.
The only drawback of the Scirocco is the interior which borrows heavily from the mk5 GTI, in fact the only diffrence is the aircon vents. Mind you, i love the mk5 interior...but having seen the mk6, makes it kinda like the bland older sister.
According to sources, by early next year, the Scirocco "mk2" will be out, with TSI engines and mk6 interior
As with the ABT golf, the abt package is rediculously priced at rm45k.
Est price - RM230k-RM240k
Est launch date - Oct
This interior is hideous...it looked like the owner DIY with red spray paint from ACE hardware
My Cunning plan for 2009/2010
- Persuade dearest wife to let me use her swift as downpayment for a new Roc
- Order in the Rieger front bumper
- Get VW to install a Mk6 steering wheel as part of the sale

Non- GTI talk
I look at my blog, also damn sien...all Golf Stuff....so decided to put up off topic post. This is the Blue Hole in Belize.
The Blue Hole is a feature attraction of diving in Belize, especially for divers with an appreciation of geographical phenomena - this is your opportunity to explore the famous Blue Hole. Part of the Lighthouse Reef System, at approximately 62 miles (100 km) from Belize City, the almost perfectly circular Blue Hole has a radius of more than 1,000 feet (305 m). It is one of the most astounding dive sites to be found anywhere on earth. Located in the center of the Lighthouse Reef the Blue Hole is a large hole of water 480 feet (145 m) deep, which gives the deep blue color that causes such structures throughout the world to be known as "blue holes."
Imagine that...480 feet straight down, divers can get Vertigo if they acidentally look straight down...its the closest sensation to flying we will ever experience. Its on the list of things to do b4 i die.
In fact...i think i will target 2012 for a trip there....since all the doomsayers think its end of the world anyway....might as well die in a beutiful place like that

Eyelids shipment
A few diffrent types of eyelids came in today, Osir Carbon, Fiber and Cfx carbon.
Osir Carbon - best looking of the 3 eyelids, perfect finish and fits with no issues
Osir Fiber - Matt black finish that matches the GT grille
Cfx Carbon - Thicker then the Osir, so might need some fiddling to ensure good fit, laquer also has imperfections probably caused by dust in the spraying room, but it makes up for it by being the cheapest
Im probbaly going to install the fiber Osir....havnt decided wheter to colour code or not, i like the way it matches the other black pieces on the grille

Gruppe M vs VF Engineering Intake
Gruppe M
I was quite impressed with the VF when i saw it, it comes in a 1 piece black anodised intake tube with 2 heatshields, one for the extractor area, the other for the engine bay. Fitment was perfect and it was done in under 25min.
Engine Cover had to be cut and modified to fit the VF, from the front u cant tell, but from the sides it looks abit Ghetto.
VF Engineering
Noise level - alot of ppl told me beforehand that the VF + Forge DV combo was like installing a thousand angry monkeys in the engine bay, but honestly, its not much louder then the Gruppe M. At certain specific rpms(3k-3.5k), theres a induction roar....but you can hardly hear it over the radio and normal road noise. If you are full at throttle, leaving the toll, and you go tru all 6 gears..you wont hear anything except the delicious roar of the 2.0T FSI
Butt dyno tells me theres better pickup across the rev range, but i intend to heat wrap the intake tube, it gets very very hot, hot enuff to burn your fingers if u touch it right after a long run
Conclusion - The gruppe M is double the price of the VF, so you cant really compare the 2 intakes, so i will call it a tie...both have +/- but are both great intakes
Gruppe M
Price --
Looks +++++
Sound ++++
Gruppe M is a must for anyone that likes the engine bay to look neat and OEM
VF Engineering
Price ++
Looks ++++
Sound ++
My gripe with the VF is the engine bay heatshield which does not extend all the way round the filter, bad design and it fails as a true CAI.

Review - JVC KW-AVX820 and Connects2 Install Kit (Golf GTi Mk5)
Disclaimer : This is going to be mostly a photo blog entry. Warning, heavy graphics ahead.
So finally my packages arrive. Surprised that the Connect2 Install Kit box was actually bigger than the JVC box! Then again there's actually 2 complete kits in there, so. Without further ado, lets open it up and see what's waiting for me inside...
As expected, quality packaging from JVC. The screen came detached from the main HU and stored in a protective cloth bag. You can use this bag to store the screen in future if you need to detach it (ie parking in dodgy places).
The Connects2 set was also impressive to say the least. It is truly a complete install kit. Everything you will need to slap on a spanking new 2DIN HU into your precious Golf GTi, including the double fakra antenna adapter (powered) that is almost impossible to find in Malaysia.
Lets go right ahead to installing the goods. I'm not going to blog about how to remove the panels and your existing player, there's already plenty of guides available on the net. Google and you'll find some good guides.
Lets prep up the new JVC. Turn the HU to its side. Look for the holes I circled in red, that's where you'll need to screw on the bracket that came with the Connects2 fascia kit. (click to enlarge the picture, the circles I drew are hard to see)
The bracket looks like its bent towards the middle a bit : DON'T TRY TO STRAIGHTEN IT! Its meant to be like that, so you can insert the copper lockpiece and slide it around. For my application, I used the 2 holes as per circled in red above. Just after the 2nd small line indicator on the bracket. You can adjust it further in or out depending on how much protrution (or otherwise) you want the HU to have. My setting above will make the HU flushed with the fascia. Screw tight to secure the copper lockpiece in place.
Repeat the same on the other side of the HU for the bracket and copper lockpiece. After you are done, test fit the DIN cage (that came with the Connects2 kit, not the JVC one). Slide into cage REAR of HU first. It should lock into place similar with the picture on top. If it doesn't lock, you might have accidently secured the copper lockpiece with mismatched lengths on either side. Check again. To remove the DIN cage from the copper lockpiece, use the 2 DIN removal keys (they look like 2 identical thin metal pieces) and insert them into sides where the lockpieces are. Slide out the HU from the DIN cage.
Now's a good time to plug in the fakra antenna adapter. There's a label there to identify the white fakra cable, so don't get it wrong. The blue cable is meant for Power Antenna input, so we'll save that until later to connect that.
Time to prep the dash area for the insertion of the fascia. Provided with the kit is 2 foam padding. Don't take out the white backing from the foam, its meant to be there so you can glide the DIN cage in. Whack on some double sided tape and stick it around the middle of the left cavity in your dash (like above). Repeat for the other side.
Screw on the plastic fascia faceplate using the 4 screws that you took out from the old headunit. Then slide in the metal cage through the fascia. You might have to do it carefully as the foam on the sides will make it a tight fit. Pressing on the foam as you slowly slide it in will help you from dislodging the foam. Once done, it should look like above.
Bend the tabs in the DIN cage (using a flathead screw driver) to secure the cage onto the fascia faceplate. You would only need to press the ones closest to you (outer most). Do this for all 4 sides of the cage. Should look like the picture above with all the tabs bent in. DON'T OVERBEND as you might break the tabs!
Lets prep the wiring harness now. Take out the rest of the Connects2 stuff. The little black box is the signal converter for the steering buttons. Plug the black box to the Connects2 wiring harness. Only one head will fit, so you can't get it wrong.
Plug in the other end of the blackbox to your brand of HU specific (mine is JVC) wire. It comes in a seperate packaging, and the wire looks similar with the above, with a different terminating head for different brands.
Grab the wiring harness that came with your new HU. Seperate the wires as per above. One cluster with red, yellow, black and orange wires. Another cluster for speaker wires, these come in pairs for each color (dark green, purple, white and grey). The remaining wires in the last bundle. Leave the light green (handbrake signal) and dark blue (power antenna) longer as you will need to connect these later.
Do the same seperation for the Connects2 wiring harness. It should have all the matching colors as above. Strip the ends of both wiring harness and line them up by the first 2 clusters mentioned above. It will really help to have a wire stripper at this point (there's a lot of wires to strip!)
Depending on which method you would want to join the wires, either get wire tappers (the blue things above) or rubber shrink wraps (or normal electric tape). I would recommend to solder/twist connect them to keep the wire harness compact, but its really your preference.
Go ahead and connect them together according to the same color of wires on each harness. Only the first 2 clusters, leave the parking signal and power antenna free at this point. You will end up with something similar with above (together with the little black box). Congratulations, you now have a fully plug and play harness!
Plug in your harness now to the new HU. It looks like the above after you plug in the main harness and the steering remote wire (from the little black box).
Strip the handbrake signal wire (light green). You need to ground this somewhere (well at least if you want to view videos on the move. Warning, this is considered a HACK, do at your own risk). I opted for the top screw on the rear of HU, as shown above. Unscrew, loop the exposed handbrake signal wire around it, and screw it tight. Make sure you tug it to be sure its secure.
Strip the end of the blue wire on fakra antenna adapter. Join it with the dark blue wire (in the last wire cluster mentioned above). It should look like above. At this point, plug in your antenna adapter to the HU, and the plug & play Connects2 harness to the CANBUS of your car (the big square block). Also, if your HU comes with an external mic for bluetooth like mine, DON'T FORGET TO PLUG THAT IN!
Routing time. I hope you got small fingers. :) Route the USB cable anywhere you want. If you want it in the glove compartment like me, route it as per above. Take out your user manual so you can see the hole where the wire would come through. Put back the manual once you pulled through as much wire length as you want. Don't worry it looks super neat once the manual is back in place. :)
Next, route your external mic. I wanted to place mine on top of the steering column, so I routed initially through the bottom of the steering rack. Look under the steering rack and you should see a hole (as per above angle) to route the mic through.
Here is where I mounted the enternal mic. Try to mount it as far as back as possible, so that not too much of wire is exposed (neater). I mounted mine on top of the steering rack, to the left. It will pick up your voice very well from there, no worries.
You are done! Double check that you have connected all the cables properly, then slide in the new HU into the DIN cage. Do it slowly, ensuring that the big bunch of cables behind don't get snagged in the process. Push it all the way until the copper lockpieces click into place. Now take a step back, marvel at your DIY skillz (L33T!) and enjoy a well deserved ciggie. =D
Once you are done complimenting yourself, start your car and test the HU. Make sure that everything works, including checking if all your speakers have sound. Also check your radio reception (you might have to change your radio band region in Settings to Europe to get certain stations). If everything is dandy, then insert the rectangle thin piece of plastic (this also came with the Connect2 fascia kit) to cover up the gap between the HU and the fascia faceplate. Put back all your dashboard pieces. *Forgive my pictures from now onwards as I did not put the top aircond vent piece into place yet, as I'm going to be change the tray above, so I left it as is.
My first test : DVD with MP3 inside. The UI looks as per above. A bit spartan, but works for me. Will display album art if you have inserted it into your ID3 tag. Sound quality is good as expected from a premium JVC unit.
Steering button test : Everything works as per advertised. Volume up/down and attenuation works without any lag. Phone button doesn't do anything. Don't have a MFD so I can't test track up/down, but it should work as promised.
Bluetooth test : Connected without any problems with my iPhone. Let me call someone (gee I wonder who's number is that. Teh tarik on me if you guess right). According to Mr Mystery, sound quality is good and has no echo (some HUs will give u an echo), so I guess the mic is a noise cancelation type. Solid!
DVD video test (Region 1) : Picture quality is as per expected on a double DIN screen. It might look a bit strained in the photos but that's because I haven't played with the brightness/contrast level when I took these photos. It looks good now. Even Magneto seem to think so! BTW the screen looks excellent even on a bright day, as you can see in the photo (it was freaking bright the sun).
Motion sensor test : Move your hand close to the screen and the control buttons pop up automatically on screen. Move your hand away and the control buttons go away, leaving you with a full screen picture again. Nice. Random japanese tourist behind there seem to think so as well. Yatta!
iPod/iPhone test : Works perfectly. Music search is quick, album art gets displayed, sound quality is excellent. It even charges my iPhone, so I'm assuming it will do the same for your iPods as well.
Faceplate security test : To remove the screen, the motor will move the HU down for you. Click on the button at the bottom of the screen (as per above) to unlock and remove it. Do it quick as it will start to beep and the motor will move the bracket back up again. To put back the screen, just insert the top first then click the bottom of the screen in place. Might take you some practise intially, so go easy and slow the first few times.
So that's the end of the guide and quick review. If you have any questions or orders, do email me directly or call me. Alternatively you can contact Ryou for orders as well.
Just some quick info :
Connects2 complete install kit, as seen above, is RM550. I will only entertain orders for complete kits, not individual components. If you love your car and don't want to let the local accessory boys to butcher your wiring, or have some non-matching "customized" fascia staring at you all the time, this is the way to go.
I also bring in any aftermarket HUs (even those you cannot find in Malaysia) you might want. All major brands like Alpine, Sony, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer etc etc are available. Price will be generally 10-15% cheaper than RRP in Malaysia, that is, if they are even sold here. Feel free to email me on a no-commitment quote today!
